I believe, as many of you do, I’m sure – that everything, absolutely EVERYTHING has happened to us, is happening, or will happen, for a reason and purpose.
Unfortunately, we aren’t always given a definite reason why certain things are allowed to take place, are we?
In these type of instances, many have chosen to explain the certainty they experienced, which may have taken place in those most uncertain moments in life, as “trusting the process of life.”
What does ‘Trust the Process’ mean to you?
Trusting the process, in my opinion, is the arrival an individual makes to discover his or her own life truths. It is a shift in focus from operating out of fear, doubt, self-limitations, and self-sabotaging behaviors – to the individual fully knowing with confidence that the Universe is always conspiring for their good.
Inwardly (as well, as demonstrations of outward growth), the individual begins acknowledging that they have reached the place they were meant to be in life. They do this even when they aren’t where they would most like to be situated.
It is ‘the process’, which allows the individual to turn over the new leaf in their life.
In learning to trust the process, we begin releasing our conditioned beliefs, mindsets, traditions, and values, of old, and begin rewriting a new process that will ultimately offer us a new way of life.
Let’s add more depth to “trust” and “process”, shall we?
Merriam-Webster defines, trust and process as:
- Trust – Believe in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength.
- Process – a natural progressively continuing operation or development marked by a series of gradual changes that succeed one another in a relatively fixed way and lead toward a particular result or end.
Ways to Perceive ’The Process’
Below, I’ve compiled a list of ways to better assist ourselves, during this journey of self-discovery – as well as, giving assistance to other’s who aren’t as mindful about the benefits of trusting the process, in their lives.
- Focus our attention on the here and now.
“I don’t care how much power, brilliance, or energy you have, if you don’t harness it and focus it on a specific target, and hold it there, you’re never going to accomplish as much as your ability warrants.” ~Zig Zigla
- Develop an inner peace to control only what can be changed, and then learn to be at peace with acceptance of that.
“Each player must accept the cards life deals him or her: but once they are in hand, he or she alone must decide how to play the cards in order to win the game.”~ Voltaire
- Be in charge of the company being kept. We will never attract the right people, in the worst frame of mind.
“Surround yourself with happy faces – people who are interested in growing and enjoying.” ~Wayne Dyer
- Who’s mentoring you? And, whom are you mentoring?
“A mentor is someone who sees more talent and ability within you, than you see in yourself, and helps bring it out of you.” ~Bob Proctor
- Be optimistic and begin raising the level of expectancy about your future. Have a healthy belief system that allows for a change in one’s perceptions.
“Men are disturbed not by things, but by the view which they take of them. ~Epictetus.”
- Continue expanding yourself by never ceasing to learn new ways of doing things. Never limit yourself to yesterday’s lessons.
“I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better.” ~Maya Angelou
- Life is either happening for us, or to us. If it’s happening to us– we must begin making adjustments to where our focus is being placed.
“Our thoughts create our reality – where we put our focus is the direction we tend to go.”~Peter McWilliams
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions – even if that means asking it more than once. If need be, rephrase the question each time, better than the last. The ultimate goal is to get clarity on the topic or subject. So, we should never be afraid to seek out help when it’s needed; nor should we reduce our chances by asking people, who haven’t experienced what we’re trying to achieve.
“He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever.” ~Chinese proverb
- Stay open to the good – that way, when it does happen, you won’t be the least bit surprised that it has happened, just the way you expected it.
“Be believing, be happy, don’t get discouraged. Things will work out.” ~ Gordon B. Hinckley
Whenever we become more willing to “trust the process of life” – we become more certain in knowing, life and the Universe is supporting us and rooting us on to succeed. Isn’t that awesome?
How do you ‘trust the process?’ Share your thoughts with me. Your thoughts could offer someone else more clarity about trusting their process. Thank you. Blessings.

Excellent message and advice! I’m a huge believer in ‘possibility thinking’ and the power we have to take action and make the choices each day to create the life we really want and deserve. Thanks for the inspiration!

I agree, Deone. I am all about the process. By nature I’m a process-oriented person, which puts me at odds with the goal-oriented society we live in. To me a goal is an artificial end-point. It’s what follows the “last step” in the “plan”. And we all know how reliable “plans” are…
A goal is not really the end of anything. Once I reach the goal, there will still be another step to take. And another, and another. Goals do not satisfy. They only keep me unsatisfied until I get to that magic place called “There”. Real satisfaction comes in knowing that, wherever I am between point A and point B, I am already “There” – right where I need to be, doing what I need to do.
Yes, trust the process, because that’s what tells us where we need to be – not “the goal” – not “the plan”.
Ken recently posted this awesomeness..A Hymn for Breathing
I can really appreciate your thoughts here, Ken. Very well put!
Goals are endless, aren’t they. Even if we were to reach those we set for ourselves, there will be many more that we will set afterwards. I’m beginning to recognize that about life. It’s not meant to accomplish one goal, and then stop right there, is it? We have to be in the ‘continuous goal setting and accomplishing’ business. Never tiring, never giving up, never settling for ‘good enough.’
We are usually “There” – where we’re meant to be, where our thoughts and actions have brought us too. If it’s not somewhere we would like to be, then we know that there is something we can do to get “There”.
No matter what, we have to accept that there’s a process to everything. And nothing worth having will ever come overnight. Once we know that, I believe, we can make better decisions and choices, ensuring our goals are attained.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about ‘the process’, mate. Great reading you.
Blessings.
Deone recently posted this awesomeness..The Illusion of Defeat
This one is so very timely Deone — I just attended a Holistic retreat today and one of the speaker said this: the Universe has the right to do what It needs to do to get you the where It wants you to go. That includes trials and tribulations too.” I thought that was so profound because it speaks to trusting the process of the things that we experience in this life.
I loved how you talk about the self-limiting and sabotaging behaviors that we oftentimes do when we’re not trusting the process going on in our lives. It can be difficult to say “You know, what I’m going through right now is totally crazy but I know that it’s a reason for it and it will eventually all work out for my good.” I think that if more people just got into the habit of saying that in life, their belief system will change and thus their overall outlook on life.
Thanks so much for this one–it really is a great accompaniment to the retreat I attended today!
Keep rising and shining!

WOW, Makeba! It sounds like you had a powerful experience at the Holistic retreat you attended. I’m interested in learning more about what that is, though. Never heard of it before. I looked it up, however, and it sounds very interesting,
I loved what the speaker had to say… it’s SO very true. It (the Universe) wants us to be prosperous, but more importantly it calls us to be trusting of it. Whenever we let go and let it have it’s way, we begin seeing the world differently, as well as seeing ourselves differently.
When we keep in mind that everything has a reason and purpose, the good and bad, alike; we are then able to do our part and simply be thankful that everything is working in our favor.
This is very much a personal journey we must take, and just because other’s may not agree or support our journey is no reason for us not to trust it.
I’m glad this post was a compliment to the retreat you attended. Pure awesomeness!

Wonderful post Deeone!
Simply loved the quotes you shared with each different way you mentioned. I think they speak a lot more than words – isn’t it?
I strongly believe that everything that is happening, has happened, or will happen in the near future has a purpose in life. And what a coincidence that this was the topic of my latest post as well.
Our whole life is a continuous process as per me and we need to merely enjoy this life’s journey by making best of what comes forth us. But yes for some the trust in this process takes time and once they are able to overcome their fears if they have any, they are able to accept things much better.
Thanks for sharing and reminding all of us to start trusting the process.

Harleena Singh recently posted this awesomeness..How to Find Purpose in Life and Be Happy
Thanks Harleena!
I really felt the quotes were a necessary addition to this post; especially with the topic being one that has so many opinions being discussed. But, you’re absolutely right – they speak volumes by themselves.
As far as our topics being similar, that’s a sign of great mind thinking alike, eh.
One thing I do know with much certainty is that this journey is one that is filled with reasons and purpose. As long as we go through it knowing it is working always for our good, we will maintain a optimistic perception about life.
I used to believe it was difficult to maintain a optimistic outlook on life, and that was because I was always looking at what wasn’t going right in my life. By shifting my focus, I have been able to see an incredible change in myself, as well as my persona and approach to the journey.
Thanks for sharing your insights on this, Harleena. I can’t wait to read your post, as well, my friend.

What an uplifting post! The quotes fit right in and are really insightful. Sometimes we know these things intellectually, but we need to be reminded because we forget.
I read a post recently that said there are so many negative thoughts permeating our world, that negativity seems to be the default position for most people. I love reading posts like these because they reinforce the positive side of life.

Hi Anne,
It’s such a pleasure seeing you here, friend.
I’m delighted you found this post to be an uplifting one – as it was intended. Thanks for the confirmation. It’s always nice to receive those from new readers, as well as more seasoned writers, like yourself.
I would definitely agree with the recent post you read concerning negative thoughts being the default position most seem to be taking these days. I’ve often found myself wondering why that seemed to be the case. However, I also have arrived to the conclusion that RMT will never be one of those type of places.
It’s not because I believe myself to be better than anyone else, but more so, because I want better for my life – and better for the lives of RMT’s readers.
So thank you for your kind thoughts here on this post. I do hope to see you again here soon. Blessings.

Ok, sorry to have popped by so late. Just busy with exams and all and the hopes of joining a new course! Yes, I am planning to go back to college!
The process, or process or finding the purpose is a tough one. That one is for sure. I am still waiting for something that I wish had truly happened a few years back and somehow I felt that destiny is something I have to make my peace with.
The fact remains that for me, there are a lot of contradictory messages coming in. For once, I trust the whole process and believe that I need to just accept what is happening because there is some good in it. But then, sometime I feel like going out and fighting for it. Should we fight our destiny or should be just accept and find happiness in the right now? Can we ever find the happiness that we truly wanted. I mean, okay I am accepting the right now. I learn to be happy with what I have right now. But then, I really want something more. Should I keep striving for it or slowly move towards it because “it might come some time”
Ok, these are a lot of questions and maybe I just typed what came to my mind! But yes, such topics bring a lot of thoughts in me! Sorry!
Hajra recently posted this awesomeness..Save Your Blog From Zombification
Awesomeness, Hajra! Congrats on getting back in school! No apologies necessary for that, my friend.
I heard someone recently who said, “Find your passion, and your passion will lead you to your purpose.” I’m beginning to believe they were on to something. If you think about it, if we do what we love most to do, that will make our work feel less like work, wouldn’t you agree?
How I discovered my own, was asking myself this question – “What could I do and be really good at it, not receiving any type of compensation for doing? Something that would allow me the mere enjoyment of doing it?”
Now, that’s not to say that I don’t expect to eventually receive compensation for the services I offer, but to me, that’s when ‘trusting the process’ comes in.
The biggest thing, in my opinion, is to have our own certainty of what ‘the process’ means for us, as individuals. Using other’s ideas of the process only to fine tune our own truths. Does that make any sense? This is our personal journey, and in knowing that, we must put our own signature on what that journey means for us.
Your thoughts are always welcomed, my friend. I appreciate the questions, because they help me to fine tune my points and possibly address them in future post. So thank you for posing them to me.
Also, thank you again, for the ‘Stalking post’… that was SO awesome of you.
Keep up the great work!
Deone recently posted this awesomeness..Expand Your Territory Series – Part 1
Hmmm… Dag Deone, me being me you know I can’t just say “I agree” and move on from there. lol
Okay, here’s my take on it all. I think one should trust the process but not just let the process take its course without some input. For instance, if I quit my job and decide to work for myself, I don’t just create a website and wait for people to find me because it’s not going to happen. Instead, I need to have a plan across the board: how I’m going to market, am I going to do networking, am I going to get into social media, do I create a website, etc. Without taking some proper steps, it’s not a process it’s a pipe dream, and those come through probably less frequently than winning the Powerball lottery.
Having said that, it does take faith to even try, and that part of trusting the process makes sense.

Mitch Mitchell recently posted this awesomeness..Could You Be Too Cute With Your Blog Or Website?
Hi Mitch,
Here at RMT, I never write to get people on my bandwagon or way of thinking – it’s always to, at the very least, get people to begin questioning their own truths about the topic of discussion. So, your thoughts here are always welcomed; even if you aren’t in total agreement with what I’ve shared. I’m open to hear opinions and thoughts that aren’t directly aligned with my own. They offer me growth, as well as another perspective.
You bring up awesome points here… I didn’t address what you shared here, because my post are usually already long enough; and to add everything I believe would have made this another series.
With that being said, I totally get what you’re saying, and for anyone to trust the process – a plan of action should certainly be in place. I’m not a lottery player, myself. I don’t believe it to be a wise move to gamble with chance at all. That is wishful thinking, and I’ve mentioned that in past posts, along with psychic readings and horoscopes. It’s sorta of like praying and then worrying about whatever you prayed about. That doesn’t make much sense to me. Once we send something up to the Higher Being that we believe in, we let it go – trusting that it will work out however the Universe sees fit or best for us. In fact, sometimes what we are trusting for – is the last thing we actually need.
Deone recently posted this awesomeness..The Knowing Part of the Process
What an awesome post! I totally believe in expecting what you deserve from the universe but I also believe that you need to work hard to me the universe half way
I adore the questions quote, I often am SO intimidated to ask questions, but I have learned in my corporate life that asking questions is actually encouraged by the leadership team and they like to hear my voice. I am attending a conference next week and I hope I can have enough confidence to ask questions…after all its what I paid for!

Nellie recently posted this awesomeness..Food Fail: Burger King, Please Take a Seat!

I agree 100% with you. One of my favorite scriptures growing up was “Faith without works is dead.” It wasn’t until I became an adult though, was when I fully began understanding what it meant. To me, we must have faith and believe that what we truly want is possible for us. However, the work doesn’t stop when we believe, we must back that up with a plan, hard work, and constantly changing the plan we have in place. One way I’ve found to be useful in improving the questions I ask others, has been to improve the questions I ask myself about my goals, life, my vision, and my purpose. More and more my curiosity has grown, and with that so has my ability to ask questions. I do wish you the best during the conference this coming week… may your confidence soar and all the right questions come to you.
Thanks for stopping in and contributing to the discussion. Cheers!

Hi Deone, I’ve just discovered your blog and really liking the messages you are putting out, especially in conjunction with the powerful quotes. Sometimes we know something but to hear it in different ways can help us to know it in a new and deeper way.
As an entrepreneur I have needed to do a lot of trusting in the process and have definitely had doubts at times but I’ve stayed postivie and dedicated and things are beginning to work out.
I look forward to reading more posts!
I definitely agree with you wholeheartedly, Lucy! I am much like you in thinking we all can learn something from one another. If by no the means than hearing it being said differently.
When we open our minds to different ideas and point of views, we allow ourselves to gather different perspectives and new ways that may have not been presented in any other way before. Many of the problems and issues we incur in this life is because we tend to only hear what we want to hear and not what’s being said.
I appreciate your feedback on this greatly, Lucy. I wish so many people were able to do the same. However, those who will hear and be open minded, are the ones that I foresee gathering the reward that comes from trusting the process. Thank you for your contribution to this post. Blessings.
