Recalculate, Refocus, and Stay Committed to the Process — Releasing Me Today

Recalculate, Refocus, and Stay Committed to the Process

by Deone on May 17, 2012

“For every failure, there’s an alternative course of action. You just have to find it. When you come to a roadblock, take a detour.” ~Mary Kay Ash

Here at RMT, I’m all about the life lessons. Recently I’ve had many of them, they’re coming faster than I can write them down these days. This particular one today, explains a bit about what has been taking place with me of late; with the sudden activity changes you may or may not have noticed throughout my website and my social media platform practices.

I’m becoming more focused on producing quality for my readers, and less focused on how many readers I can get. For I now know, if I produce quality – the readers will come. This clarity would come when I asked my inner true being for its truth.

Here was the response…

“If it is ever brought to your attention (both internally and externally) that you’re heading in the wrong direction, and you persist to head in the same direction – ignoring the warnings and hints that smack you in the face along the way – then you deserve to get whatever you discover once you arrive there.”

OK, WOW – Let’s see if I can soften that up a bit, eh.

How many times has your intuition advised… or warned you (depending on how yours speaks to you, my own can be a bit direct) to do “A, B, C”, but instead you thought “X, Y, Z” would work far better in your favor? So you tried it your way, only to realize that your way not only didn’t get you to where you desired to go; but the trip there wasn’t all that you thought it would be cracked up to be, either.

Can you relate to having this type of experience? I know I’ve certainly had mine.

I have had far too many instances where I was constantly being bombarded with these kinds of wake-up calls – I’ve come to call them, life’s cliffs notes – they’re the subtle moments that our inner being has clued us in to something that we should incorporate into our practices, or maybe consider a new way of going about doing it altogether.  Possibly, someone else comes along and confirms it, by saying the exact same thing that the inner you said to do.

Usually – for me at least –  it’s the inner voice that speaks first, because somehow, it truly does have all the answers we seek.

Now, you have two choices after you have realized you’re coordinates are a bit off course.

You can A) Throw up that white flag your thoughts have been telling you to give an ole wave. In my opinion, this one is simply not an option.

Or, you can B) Recalculate, refocus, and continue to stay committed to the destination point, in which you are dedicated and determined to arrive.

Let’s say you go with Option B, … good choice by the way.

1)      Recalculate – I’ve wrote a couple of pieces about recalculating. Tony Robbins calls it changing your approach.  I believe one of the most essential steps to one’s personal growth is the concept of acknowledgment. Being able to say to yourself, “OK, this isn’t working out as I planned.” However, acknowledgement alone is useless; without action placed behind it.

2)      Refocus – After a recalculation of approach has taken place, it’s essential to ensure that our focus is being place on the best area to produce a different outcome than the one we were moving towards – before the correction was given, that is. I personally had to ask myself a series of questions, such as these…

  • “Is what I’m doing right now conducive to bringing me the results I want?”
  • “Are my daily activities aligned with my goals?”
  • “Are the people I’m associating with validating my desire to reach my fullest potential or are they tolerating me just to push their own agenda?” (this has everything to do with the 5 people we spend the bulk of our time with)

3)      Stay Committed The goal in life is to enjoy it, serve others with it, improve upon it, adjust to the changes, make corrections when necessary, and to proceed forward with commitment. It’s the commitment that ultimately gets us the results we desire to achieve. On yesterday I tweeted, “Knowing where you’re going is more important than knowing how you will get there. Best to have #Clarity&Focus & use of your inner #GPS.” When we’re sure of where we’re going it becomes easy to stay committed. Nothing clears things up like a step back, a bit of clarity, and the right questions posed to our intuition.

We each have within us great potential, and we access that greatness through using our gifts with passion. Whenever we go back to the Universe/Creator – that I have come to believe we access through our own inner true being – asking for the gift’s operators instructions;  we soon discover the instructions have always been there available to us.

We need only ask the right questions to activate them.

What we seek is often a matter of Recalculating, Refocusing, and Staying Committed to the process or  goal at hand.

Sometimes the only thing we need is a recalculated approach to put us back on the right track.

Great tips, Deeone. Most people just give up because they think it won’t work for them. They don’t recalculate and refocus on what it is they’re trying to achieve. Staying committed is the only way we will ever do what we dream about.

Thanks Dwayne. You’re absolutely right, man. The easiest thing for most, is to give up; especially if they had an idea in mind of where they thought they should be. We shouldn’t base our success in moments, but rather collectively, from start to finish; doing it that way might surprise a lot of people. Not to mention, there are many who gave up right when things were about to turn around for them.

Great thoughts, D. Thanks for stopping in and contributing to the discussion.

Wonderfully put Deeone. Too many times I think people stay committed but forget to temper that committment with the adjustments and recalculating needed. To use your GPS example: if you were committed to heading out somewhere and your GPS takes you to a road that is broken, under construction or just plain feels wrong (ie. pavement turns to gravel turns to mud…lol) and you insist on staying your course without adjustment you are going to get stuck; or worse!

We have to check in from time to time and sit with our intuition. It’s hard to hear it sometimes with all of the outside noise of life, loved ones and old belief systems.

You know me..one of my favorite saying is if you don’t know where you’re going, how will you know if you’ve gotten there? It goes right along with your comments around how you get there!

keep on being fabulous Deeone!

Thanks Bonnie.

I think you’re very right on this, I suppose people assume that everything will go as planned and no adjustments will be needed. But without taking our progress, failures, successes, and mistakes into consideration; how will a person know how to share what they have learned with others. I mean, that is the point to it all, isn’t it?

I also think you’re on the money with finding our “secret corner’s” in life. Silence is definitely golden, and in that silence lies the answers to where we’re skipping out on some necessary steps, or have been making steps that aren’t serving our purpose. At the very least, it’s something that we ought to consider constantly.

I’ve always loved your saying too… it’s a goodie, for sure. ;)

Thanks for sharing your insights on this with me, my friend. I appreciate your contribution to the post.

Cheers!

Wonderful Deeone!

Yes indeed, you are surely going on the right path dear friend and for that if you have to take a little back seat to do the things that you feel are important, then nothing like it. At least you are now headed in a direction you know is important for you and is the purpose of your life. Very few of us are really able to learn more about what we really want, and if you are treading on a path learning about it, then that’s the best thing that can happen to you. :)

I totally agree with your three steps mentioned. We all do need to recalculate what our aim and motive and then take the steps required to move in that direction, which again isn’t easy for people to do. And yes, once you know where your focus lies, you should be firm and stay committed to achieve what you have set out to do.

Speaking of myself, I feel I keep growing, evolving, and changing every single moment. Everything I come across is a learning experience for me. No, I haven’t yet taken any steps to think back and see what my focus or goal is because I know that will always be my kids and family. They are priority for me, at-least till they are on their own, and once that happens I would start thinking on these lines.

Thanks so much for sharing about a very important topic that all of us need to think about and take action. :)

Thank you, Harleena. :)

It isn’t an easy choice, but I do know that in choosing and clarifying my path I will benefit from it in the long run. I believe that sometimes the hardest decisions are the most beneficial ones we’ll ever make. You’re so right about many people not having a clear idea of what they really want, but with clarity we are better able to create a strategy to obtain whatever it might be.

I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts about what’s most important to you. I believe your kids and family is your goal, and even that, requires some recalculating and refocusing at times, wouldn’t you agree? I’m sure you and your husband have to constantly reconfigure what will best work for the both of you and your kids. They may be minor recalculations, but recalculations, nonetheless.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this, my friend. It’s always a pleasure reading you. :) Cheers and blessing to you and yours.

Wow Deeone — this was definitely something that I needed to read, as i am in this very point in my life myself.

Trying to determine what to do and the best approaches to doing it is truly hard work, and I’m experiencing this in not just one area, but several areas of my life. I could go on and on, but you are right that it does take a constant effort of recalculating and refocusing to make it to your desired destination. And another thing that I’m learning in this life journey is that the it’s okay if the “desired” destination changes — just recalculate again for the new destination and refocus so that you can get to it. As long as your commitment stays strong, you’ll be ok.

I really want to thank you for this one! I needed it! :)

That’s so awesome to hear, Makeba. I’m delighted to know this message met you when it was most needed to do so.

You’re absolutely right about it being hard work, I’m sure you have also been confronted with doubts as to whether or not certain decisions are the best ones to have made. However, it says a lot about an individual whose able to sense when recalculating and refocusing is needed. There are many who wouldn’t choose to invest in changing things up, because they might see it as having to start over; or they could be stuck to their idea of their final destination. Whatever the case, we must leave room for change in our plans. Not doing so will eventually set us up for being disappointed. Why? Things are going to change whether we like for them to or not. So, we mind as well leave room for it to happen.

I wish you the very best in your recalculating and refocusing pursuits. If you need me to be a sounding board that you can bounce ideas or thoughts off of, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Boy, can I relate to this post, Deeone! =) It had me thinking of how I can be stubborn for the better or the worse. There’s been that stubbornness against my own intuition and then a stubbornness in *following* my intuition despite feeling like others are against me or disapproving. Sometimes, the second path can seem so much more difficult, but you’ve reminded me the value in finding that strength to be me. =) Thanks, friend!

Good day my dear friend,

I am so delighted you could relate to this post. I loved the honesty you shared here. I too, have had moments where I have been stubborn to hear what my intuition was telling me, and can also relate to the feelings of other’s being against me or disapproving of my cause. What I’m learning though is to release those thoughts and trust in knowing that those apart of our destiny will be, and those that aren’t won’t. It can be hard to accept, but once we master knowing that we are right were we need to be, we can begin refocusing our efforts on where it needs to be placed. :)

Thank you for such a wonderfully insightful comment. I SO miss your presence in the online world. Glad to have you back, Chica! :)

Hi Gracie and Welcome,

I loved what you had to say about the fear of changing things up… you’re absolutely right! Many won’t even consider changing their approach, out of fear of having to start over or from just being stuck to the idea they had in the beginning. However, I believe that success comes to those who recognize when change is needed and constantly move towards it with the least amount of resistance.

Thanks for stopping in and sharing your thoughts on this, my friend. :) Cheers!

Thank you and welcome, Nellie! :)

I’m so delighted to hear you found this post helpful. I believe when we’re on the road to success, we have to constantly and consistently reconfigure our strategy. We can’t rely on something that isn’t giving us the results we’re seeking after. Most people will continue moving forward, even when they see that what their moving towards isn’t working – in their minds, I’m sure their saying, “I’m going to make this work; if it’s the last thing I do.” With that way of thinking – it will be the last thing they do. :D

I’m glad to hear you’re willing to refocus and recalculate when you see that things weren’t going as you planned.

Here’s another thought I want to share with you also – it’s something I heard Tony Robbins say on his “Unlimited Power” collection – “You never fail, you simply get outcomes from trying something that didn’t work.” Look at those failures as results. Results that you are able to use as tools to do it better the next time. ;)

It’s a pleasure to have read you here, my friend. I encourage you to come back soon. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Cheers. :)

Thanks Pj, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I totally agree with you, my friend – life isn’t complicated, we make it so whenever we lose focus of what we’re doing here on the earth. In my opinion, that’s to serve others and ourselves – to inspire people to be better than they once thought possible for themselves.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this with me. Cheers mate! :)

Great post, Deeone! I have recently begun to focus more on living my best life and writing about it than I have on attracting more page views.

To be totally honest, I feel I have the luxury of doing so as my readership has grown enough that I can take a step back from actively promoting my blog and just enjoy and honor the process instead.

Still, there are days the nagging “shoulds” fill my head and I think I should be doing something different because that’s what has worked for others. I’ve resisted the “shoulds” and remind myself that my path is my own. It’s unique and flexible and it’s all about honoring where I am today instead of where I think I should/would/could be.

Have a grateful day!

My husband and I are going through this phase in life where we are actually requiring to go back, recalculate and regain focus. You have summarized it so aptly….i just wish that life actually showed us these signs-that when we are at crucial crossroads, it warns us which ones to actually take.

I am so glad to have read this, at the time when it was most needed. Thanks for the insightful share.
