Would You Allow Your Gifts to Be Stolen? — Releasing Me Today

Would You Allow Your Gifts to Be Stolen?

by Deone on March 29, 2012

Would you allow anything or anyone to steal the gifts you’ve been given? No? Then read on, you may be fending off thieves every single day, and have no clue of what they’re up too. I’m not talking about like the one you see here in the image below, the thieves I’m talking about are bit more cunning than that. And the gifts they’re trying to steal are not material items.

For me, the last two weeks have been a complete roller-coaster. I’ve had some major highs, and some ridiculous lows. Everything that could go right, ROCKED! Yet, everything that could go wrong went horribly wrong.

Of course, you know I’m not fazed; nope, not one bit. It’s apart of the master plan, I’m sure.would you allow your gifts to be stolen

Instead, I look at it as the negative occurrences coming in like a robber into my home, attempting to take a precious gift from me; and I can assure you that I’m not going to make it an easy steal. Just like in the natural, I will protect me and mine at all cost!

Throwing my hands up and allowing my gifts to be taken or denied the room to blossom and mature, is NOT an option.

I already know that the power to handle the problem is within. I had to remind myself that ”You are greater than the problem at hand.”

You see, sometimes we reach a point on this journey where everything seems to be coming together. Then out of nowhere, BOOM! All hell seems to break loose.

It’s in those instances we need to take a step back and realize what’s really taking place at that very moment.

If you’ve been following the blog, then you know there’s been a lot of wonderful stuff happening for me over the last couple of weeks; I was invited to be a guest panelist on WOAR, I was asked by my good friend Bonnie Copeland to speak at the Coffee with Soul Series on April 16th, I finished my eBook and now awaiting my new website design to be completed, and I also found out that we will be relocating out of the area we’ve been living over the last few months.

So a lot of stuff going on, right?

While I’m extremely grateful for everything that has taken place thus far, I know within my heart, that there’s SO much more to come.

Notice I haven’t mentioned any of the obstacles I have had to face in the last couple of weeks. Why? It’s simply because that’s not the purpose of this post.

The purpose of this post is for you to know that there is never a reason to give up when problems arise. Hard times, obstacles, failures, and defeats are bound to happen. Shake the dust from your feet, and keep it moving.

Been Here, Done That

I’ve made it to this place in my life before, you see. It’s very familiar to me. In the past, I would reach a point in my life or career, and would get right there at the cusp of a victory, a promotion, or some type of advancement, become fearful about what was coming to pass; and ended up walking away or quitting whatever it was that I was about to achieve. Crazy huh? Yeah, I know.

However, I know that I’m not the only one that has experienced what has taken place; I believe there’s someone going through it right now. It’s for them that I’m sharing this post today.

I had a major case of self-sabotaging going on for myself; but had absolutely no idea of how to go about stopping it.

So even though this place I’m in seems a little déjà vu to me, the difference in then and now, lies solely in what I’ve learned over the last three years.

This is what I’ve learned in a nutshell.

3 Tips to Stop the Thief

solution to the problem

Thanks for this little tid bit, Rob! It has definitely come in handy. ;)

  1. First off, let’s clarify just who this thief is. The “thief” is inside of each of us. It’s our own minds, and it loves to play tricks on us. The feelings of inadequacy are the main culprit of our minds working against us, and if we don’t learn how to sit those bad thoughts in a corner and tell them to hush up; then they will convince us of the fuckery they’re trying to get us to buy into. Tell those thoughts to kick rocks, immediately! How to go about doing that? Replace the thought with another thought… a better one.
  2. Shit happens! We mind as well be prepared for whatever it is when it does. The closer we get to our idea of success, the more things are going to come up against us; and it’s only an attempt to take our minds off of what we already know needs to get done. There’s a rainbow somewhere after a storm. We simply have to ride the storm out, in order to see it.
  3. There’s always a solution to every problem we might run head-on into. We often miss the solutions because we’re distracted by the problem itself. If we can manage to face the problem with an open and clear mind, we would see the solution glaring at us, and waiting patiently to be discovered. The image next to this, is something Rob White told me on my first call in to the show! And let me tell you it has definitely come in handy.

So the next time a thief comes in to steal your gift, keep these three tips in mind.

And remember, nothing or no one has the power to overtake you or keep you from using your gifts,  no one but you can rob you of your gifts.

Wow! Very powerful and direct with this one Deeone!! You are not alone in what you’ve been going through– I too have had a huge wave of jubilant highs and hard-hitting lows over the past few months. What I love most about you analogy of the thief coming in is that it really is like that: those lows come at us like thieves in the night (I’m thinking of Prince’s song “Thieves in the Temple” lyrics :) ) and many times we forget the importance of keeping our joy and optimism and we also forget that we have to be on guard at all times so that not only can we recognize the thieves, but defend ourselves heart, soul, body and mind.

Thank you for being so open about your experiences — it lets others know that they are not alone! :) Awesome post!!

Hey Makeba,

I’m glad you enjoyed it, my friend. :) Yes, it’s incredibly important, I think, to maintain our composure when the thieves try to sneak in on us. It’s totally a mind game. The enemy within us really doesn’t want us to prosper; I believe it works against us to make us that much stronger.

I actually thought I wasn’t going to be able to post this morning. That got me a little antsy. So last night, I finally just threw my hands up to it (figuratively speaking) and said, “What will be, will be. I can’t change it; so mind as well not stress over it.”

This morning when I woke up with a fresh outlook, and ready to forget the days before. It’s been going sweetly every since. :)

You best believe I know that Prince jam, BTW. I loved that song! I see we have a lot of the same taste in music. :) That’s Rocking!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your thoughts on this.

Cheers and Blessings, my friend. :)

I love the reminder that my happiness, health, patience, and success comes from my inward circumstances not as a result of my outward circumstances. My attitudes and beliefs about myself and life determine my experience.

Whenever I feel discouraged or frustrated I have an opportunity to learn from the situation and make a positive and thoughtful change. I might choose to change my emotional response, or maybe my situation. The important thing for me to remember is I always have a choice!

Sometimes good things happen and sometimes they don’t- that’s just life. It’s what I do with what happens that determines my success.

Great post, Deeone!

Have a grateful day!

Hi Chrysta,

You nailed it, sweets! It’s imperative that we know that we always have a choice in the matter.

I truly believe that problems and mishaps are a plan from the Universe to teach us how to cope with what’s to come. When we make them bigger than they are, or try to avoid them altogether; we are simply setting ourselves up for a retake. And those are never fun.

As you put it, ultimately, it’s all about what we do with the good and the bad in this life. We should always do our best to face every situation in the same manner, because theirs always someone that find us influential, that’s watching us. And if for no other reason to approach the situation with an optimistic approach; we should do it to be an example to others.

Thanks for sharing your awesome thoughts on this, Chrysta! It’s always a pleasure to read you. :)

Love the 3 tips, Deeone. Spot on! Too often, we forget that things just happen, so we have to resolve them, solve them, and move forward. We cannot let our purpose or progress be “robbed” – we must power on through the ups and downs. Thanks for the reminder! Jon

Hey Jon,

Thanks! I’m glad that you enjoyed them.

You said it, buddy. There’s no need crying over spilled milk. What’s done is done. There’s no way around that. All we can do is handle it the best way we know how, and if we can’t handle it; find peace of mind in knowing just that. By any means should we think about giving up. Sometimes it’s a test just to see if we will give up. We have to pass the test by moving forward. :)

Thanks for stopping in and sharing your thoughts, my friend. :)

Hi Deeone
This was a great post. Congrats on your recent accomplishments and I am sure you will find a way to handle any bumps you may have run into. You strike me as quite the smart cookie! You are so right about our own minds screwing stuff up for us. It is pretty amazing to me because on a conscious level, the idea that we think we are unworthy, that we are bad or wrong in some way, that we purposely keep ourselves in bad situations, etc.. sounds so ridiculous. But as we all know, much of what operates in this world is beyond logical thought. The self-examination to uncover what is happening deep down within us can be uncomfortable at times, but it is the only way to clear out the junk holding us back. We truly are our own worst enemy, but with some work we can also become our greatest ally

Hi Kelli!

I first want to thank you for stopping in and giving me a swift reminder to go and leave some feedback on your most recent post. I actually read it last night before the show, and didn’t have time to respond. Afterwards, it slipped my mind; so I’ll be heading back to leave my thoughts shortly. :)

Now, on to your response. Thanks for the compliment… I like the sound of that “smart cookie” description; it caused a HUGE grin to come upon my face. :D

You’re SO right too, no one wants to believe that they are the reason for not doing or being who or what they want to be. It’s far easier to point the blame and play the victim. Yet, when we allow ourselves to be honest with ourselves (if with no one else, but ourselves), we also allow ourselves to grow and become better. I believe that by facing those qualities that could use some polishing, we reach higher heights in our personal growth.

What I loved the most about what you said was that last part, “…with some work we can also become our greatest ally.” That in a nutshell, my dear friend, is exactly what I seek to achieve. And now I have yet another way of explaining it. Thanks for that and for such a delightful comment! :) Cheers!

Nice title Deeone!

No one would allow their gifts to be stolen for sure, and more so if they are so dear to onesefl- isn’t it? But yes, what you say does happen to the best of us- as whenever we think that things are going or sailing well- enverything seems to have fallen right flat.

Yes, you are absolutely right that its at that time when all hell breaks loose that we need to keep our calm and recognize what’s really happening, without really getting perturbed about it. I know it’s easier said than done, but thats what shows your strength.

There sure seems to be a lot going on at your end-all good things happening for your dear friend, and I am so happy for that! New website design- wow! can’t wait to see that and the eBook of course. :)

Yes, this is just the tip of the iceberg for you and I am sure there would be many more wonderful things lined up for you. But, learn to give yourself a pat in the back for the smallest of achievement also- isn’t it? You have worked hard and earned to reach where you are today. :)

Absolutely right about fighting the odds and facing the obstacles and keep moving forward- that’s what life is all about. And I don’t think I recognize it any other way either.

I liked the 3 tips to stop the thief, and yes the thief is always there in all of us- something somewhere hidden. But yes, just as you said there are ups and downs in life, but then there’s always solutions to those problems also for which you need an open mind to check out.

And we have to keep in mind that there is always a silver lining to the clouds also that gives us hope to move on- isn’t it?

Thanks so much for sharing yet another wonderful post with a wonderful reminder for all of us.

Have a nice weekend :)

Good day Harleena! :)

I’m glad you enjoyed the title. When I first started writing the post I had something totally different for it. After I finished and edited, the current titled popped in my head as I was about to hit publish. So I had to smile when you mentioned it. :) Thanks!

It’s incredibly true that what this post is about is easier said than done; especially when our mind is constantly telling us to panic or act out on what’s occurring. Yet, the reward indeed is remaining calm, stepping out of oneself, and looking at the situation from every angle; and then trying to figure out a solution to whatever is happening.

We can never produce the results we want in an anxious or upset frame of mind, can we? It never seems to work out in the way that we would like for it to whenever we try to fix things in that fashion. It does take practice, if it doesn’t come natural. For me, it’s taken a lot of practice, that’s for sure.

I’m super stoked about all that’s taking place, and I really felt at the time that all the things that were coming against me were attempting to take my mind off of the celebrating all that’s happening. I was determined not to let that happen. I have come to understand a lot more that when we allow the problem to overshadow the awesomeness of life, we inevitably invite more problems to pile on top of them. It’s an ongoing cycle that will keep going, if we allow it to do so.

These days I’m all about looking for the silver lining, seeing the rainbow, and making the best of every situation I might face. And since adopting the mindset of accentuating the positive; I can see major changes in the things I’m ushering into my life. I only wish I would have seen the need for this way of thinking years ago. Oh well, better late, than not at all, eh. ;)

Thank you for such a wonderful comment and for the kind compliments. I am extremely grateful for you, my friend.

Have an amazing weekend ahead also, my friend. Cheers!

Hi, Deeone,

Great practical tips for sending the thieves away! Anyone can apply these when their awareness is high.

I like this commnet of yours – “Hard times, obstacles, failures, and defeats are bound to happen. Shake the dust from your feet, and keep it moving. ” I have learned that in every ‘negative’ moment, positive things are happening. For example, when we lose a loved one, there are many people expressing their love and concern for us. A grateful attitude can be found in every circumstance.

Your post is a must read for anyone who have challenges shredding their emotional past. Well done!

Hi Deeone,

This was a very powerful post, my friend. Thank you for writing! :-)

As I was reading your post, I was trying to find examples from my own life that were similar to your experiences.

One thing I’ve noticed is that just when success is in sight, at this point the thief kicks in the strongest. In fact, I believe it’s useful to actually expect this to happen.

If we are working on ourselves, and we’re coming from a position where life wasn’t so good previously, just when the fruits of a labour are about to manifest through our hard work, the doubts begin big time.

At this point we need to be extremely vigilant and “ride the storm” as you said. The storm will pass. This too is guaranteed.

I’m really excited about your appearance on the Coffee with Soul Series! This sounds great.

Is there any way we can listen to your talk?

Thank you for the awesome comment, buddy.

I knew there would be many that could relate to this, and I wanted to inspire and encourage them to know that this was to be expected; and they should proceed forward and not get discourage about any problems they might face. Instead, look for solutions, and see the lessons the problems provide them with.

I loved your thoughts on this, mate. I was watching a show on last evening, and one of the characters was telling another, that “with more success comes more problems.”

We have to always be in a state of being prepared for anything that might arise. We should also trust that each problem we face is actually rendering us with a very valuable lesson. And yes, as you shared, being extremely vigilant is definitely key.

Thank you for those sweet sentiments, my friend. I’m delighted the post here reach you right when you need them. That’s incredibly encouraging of you to say. :)

I think we’re all a bit guilty of self-sabotaging, to a degree. Some have just mastered it a little better than others. I’m learning daily to silence the thief that desires to keep me from what’s possible for me, and I believe that you are as well. When the thief speaks, we must speak back (louder, if we have to) to it, with a reminder to it, of how awesome we truly are. :) And you, my friend, are awesome!

Here’s one thing I do know, we have a gift within us. The fact that we are using it also tells me that we have already begun defeating the thief. As we continue to do so, it will eventually tire, and give up trying. We simply have to proceed with our actions. Each time we act, we’re telling it to “Sit down and shut up!” :D

I believe in you as well, Shelley. Keep on silencing the enemy! ;)

I think a good way to find out more about your mind and how he/she sometimes plays tricks on you is to journal – and to regularly read your journal.

It helps to see the situation you’re currently in from a new perspective.

You can get back to a difficult situation you had last year, for example, and you know that it got better again.

And you’re so right – no one can steal your gifts, only you can do that. Don’t let the dream-stealers out there try to convince you that it’s any other way. :)

Hi Deeone, How are you my friend?

What a powerful post! thank you for sharing your story.

So many of us suffered the voice in our heads saying we’re inadequate. Sometimes we just struggle getting away from that voice and we often need a little bit of help and encouragement from the people around us to help us get away from those nasty voices in our heads.

Best wishes to you, my friend, for a magnificent weekend.
Daniel

Hi Daniel, all is well here, my friend. Thanks for asking.

I’m glad to read that you enjoyed the read.

You’re absolutely right, it’s sometimes the belief that other’s have in us that we must cling too, that helps to keep us encouraged and believing in ourselves. Something I’ve been working on is replacing those thoughts with better ones. If the voice says, “I’m inadequate.” I in turn tell it, “I am more than enough.” It’s a battle of figuring out who will convince who of who I am; me or my ego. :D

Thanks for sharing the awesomeness, mate. Hope you’re enjoying your weekend, as well. Cheers

Love the advice you gave “I am greater than the problem at hand!” Love that.

Hang in there during your move and all the other changes. You’re doing really great things and that is super inspiring to me! I loved this post.

Good day Steve,

Thank you so much, bro! You are such an encouragement to me. I want you to know that. Your positive expressions to my work always inspires me to keep moving forward. I simply wanted to express my gratitude to you for being YOU.

Even though the move still have a couple months until it actually happens (unless a miracle happens…which I know is possible :D ), I’m totally excited about all that’s taking place. So again, thank you for the encouragement.

I have no doubt in my mind that you would ever let the thieves steal your gifts. They would be a fool to even try. ;)

Keep up the great work, buddy! I believe in you and what you’re doing too. Cheers!

Deeone, You are beautiful. I don’t know how or why I missed this post when it came out but I saw it exactly on the day I really, REALLY needed to hear your message. “you are greater than the problem”
You have no idea what a difference those words have made.

I know I tell you this often but keep on being your fabulous self!

((hugs)) Bonnie

It’s all about timing, my love. That is becoming very evident to me. I’m glad this was such a great help to you though. I have actually re-read this post a few times myself since writing it.

You are doing a wonderful job with My Rivendell. And many of your lessons you have shared have helped me as well. So consider it as us still sharpening one another.

It was great finally talking with you on Monday; I can’t wait until next Monday, as well. I’m looking ever so forward to the Coffee with Soul series conversation.

Thank you again for the opportunity. :) Wishing you the best always. Cheers!
