How to Let Go and Get What You Want?

by Deeone on December 29, 2011

Today’s Guest post comes from Jimmy Tong of Life Architects. After connecting with this young man some time ago, I knew it would only be a matter of time before he guest posted here on The Release. I’m super excited to have had both of these fellas guest spot here. I appreciate you both.

Next week, we will reconvene to the once a week posting schedule; that will take place on next Thursday. Happy New Year, everyone!! See you over in 2012!! Enjoy the read and please release some comment love for our guest.

 letting go

I read a post from Marcus Baker about What does the law of Attraction Have to do with Losing Your Keys? Marcus shares extensively on how we can all Ask, Release, Believe and Receive at his site.

That particular post is special because it came at a time when I was starting to experience two new phenomenons in my life as well. One, I was starting to meditate. Second, something deep within me was telling me to stop telling IT what to do to get what I want in my life.

I do not know what you think of coincidences, but have you ever heard about the Law of Attraction? That was supposed to be rhetoric! Of course all of us have heard of Law of Attraction, right? When I linked what I was experiencing internally to what I was reading to what’s happening externally in my life, I can’t help but think that Law of Attraction is at work in my favor this time.

When my inner being told me to stop being the smart ass to figure out getting what I wanted, I took note and began to live more in the moment. My meditation certainly helped me to empty my mind more for more divine wisdom to pour forth into my being. Then Marcus’ post came. The next thing that happened to me was my family getting evicted from my home.

Yes, we were evicted. Not by my landlord but by my father-in-law because things came to a boil. You know what, I was actually very glad to go. Now my family lives in a cleaner and cooler house. My children are happier and my poor wife no longer has to face her strange parents. To me it was really attracting what I wanted and good has come out of this so far. I am thankful for this string of coincidences when I decided to let go.

There are some lessons I hope to share so that you will get what you want by letting go.

How can you let go of what you want?

 1.      Set your intention once and forget it.

I am not advocating that we do not visualize and plan for what we want in our lives. My point is to simply dream, plan, set and let go. Once you have imbedded that vision and image of what you want in your life, forget it. I know the law of attraction says to hold that image for as long as you can with you. But what Marcus mentioned in his post is correct – the more you want it, you are simply causing the vibration of not having it yet to become stronger.

2.      Replace your desire by doing what’s immediate.

Instead of dreaming about it all the time, go use that energy to do something totally different. Let’s say you are dreaming of increase sales in your company. You are thinking of all the strategies and things you could do to raise sales. What I am saying is to forget the strategy and brainstorming. You have done enough of that. Now, spend your efforts on doing what is the next task at hand. Maybe, it has to do with researching your products, creating your products and chatting with producers instead of marketing presentations. Go do other things. You will be surprise at how the universe makes connections.

3.      Empty your mind.meditating

The next great thing to do is to empty your mind and stop being Dr. Know-It-All. You do not need to know how to get there. You do not need to know how to do it? You do not need to know what to say? Shift your focus and concentrate on emptying your mind regularly. For me, meditation was a big help. The more I emptied my mind, the more resources filled it. These are brand new resources and ideas fresh from heaven. How can you beat that form of support?

4.      Engage with people who come into your life.

As you shift your focus and energy, do not underestimate the people that you meet both online and offline. My recent wedding brought me back into contact with a long lost army friend. Guess what, we are now emerging business partner in a new venture. He was so excited about our congruence of ideas that he is calling me daily to tell me what he has discovered in his market research. Similarly, I am also meeting more online friends who are giving me more and more leads. This is all because I chose to focus on people I meet instead on the dreams I have.

5.      Focus on the positive things in your life.

As you live each day, there are bound to be positive and negative things in life. I am going to tell you the obvious that you never do often – start focusing on what makes you happy, even if the activities or people are totally not related to what you want. My children had nothing to do with my new business idea, but they made me smile a lot. So, I stopped working and played with them more whenever they are not in school. The results have been sensational for my soul.

I dare you now to let go. Forget what you want and go divergent. Radically divergent! The universe will bring you back full circle to what you want.

Your turn,

Do you think too much about what you want? How often do you visualize what you want? Is that too much? How else can you let go and allow divine forces to bring you what you want on a silver platter? Comments please?

Hi Karla,

Thank you so much for your feedback on Jimmy’s post. I totally agree with you, it certainly can be hard to let go of things in life. I think it’s human nature for us to hold on to what we want to hold on to, as well as somethings that we wish we could let go of more easily. It’s a challenge of life that we must learn to master…. it’s definitely an art to it… letting go. And you’re right, most people who find it hard to do so, usually end up missing out on a lot of things in life. Great point, Chica! :)

Hello Karla,

Some people find it hard to let go. Personally I feel it is because of our big ego at work. When that happens, things become unconscious and that’s where wanting to know everything and be in charge of everything starts happening. Raise our consciousness of what we are intending and I think we will be able to let go better.

Ah, great to see you over here Jimmy. I was looking forward to this post since Deeone shared with us that you would be next. And what a wonderful topic this is too.

Okay, I’m guilty. I do my afformations and I go down my list of what I’m grateful for every single day. I thank God for things that I have even if they haven’t shown up yet so in my mind I’m not “wanting” for those things because I’m acting like I already have them. But I am guilty of holding on to those thoughts too much instead of doing my morning routines and then letting them go. They will still continue to pop up in my thinking throughout the day. I do my very best to stay in the present moment and I do meditate each morning as well. It’s that old mind wandering that gets me sometimes still.

I’ve always said I’m a work in progress so I still have a lot of work to do as the new year approaches. I had read Marcus’ post and know he’s right as you are as well. So I needed that extra slap upside the head Jimmy so thank you for that.

Hope you are having a fabulous week and I want to wish you a Very Happy New Year. I have no doubt it will be fantastic for you and your family.

Best wishes,

~Adrienne

Thanks for the awesome feedback to Jimmy’s post, Adrienne! :)

I don’t really know the appropriate etiquette of commenting on guest post, I try to hold off as long as I can to the comments that are meant for the guest bloggers; it’s quite difficult for me. :D Yet, I know that we all are very busy and can’t respond back as quickly as others. I guess this will be something that I will have to learn in the coming year. :)

I’m with you though as far as making my goals known and believing in them to come to pass, but I also have to learn to let them go once I send them out to the Universe.

Jimmy’s post here (and Marcus’s as well) was right in line with helping us to know that this is the more accurate practice for us, if we are truly seeking our goals and dreams to take place. We simply have to let go and get into the mind frame of expectancy.

I look forward to putting this into practice, myself. Like we’ve been discussing a lot here of late, we really do learn a lot from one another. That is truly the case! :)

Happy New Year, my friend! I look forward to growing with you in 2012! Cheers! :)

You are doing wonderfully, Adrienne. And my apologies for the late reply to this comment, Deeone.

Sometimes, we do tend to over do our visualization and dream. When we do that what are we actually telling the universe? We don’t trust you! When we have this sort of implication why should the divine help us. We all need to show a little more faith, dream and let go. In fact most of the things we want are already known even before we speak or think.

Recently, I read The Game of Life and one of the greatest lesson I learnt from this wonderful book is to show active faith, ie prepare to receive for things you asked for even if nothing indicates its appearance. That will be the ultimate leap of faith for anyone.

Nice to see you here Jimmy!

This surely is a wonderful topic about how to let go- something that is not easy for everyone to do :)
Yes, I did read the mentioned post at Marcus’s blog and loved it as well. I do believe strongly in the law of attraction, and also meditate, but sometimes letting go doesn’t come all that easy.

I love the points you have put up, and it does happen with me so often that even though I may try really hard to let go of the past or things that may have occurred that I don’t want to remember, it does get really tough. But yes, I do practice some of the points you mentioned and those help me a great deal. I guess just forgetting about things that upset you and diverting your attention to other things help a great deal.

Thanks for sharing such wonderful tips, and wishing everyone a happy and prosperous Happy New Year :)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on Jimmy’s post, Harleena! :)

As you know, letting go is definitely something that I love to practice in my life and I encourage it here on “RMT”, as well. However, this is an area that I too, have had difficulty letting go in my life. I send out what I want into the Universe, but rarely have I left it there. I carry the thought and the “wish for it to come to pass” along with me in my thoughts.

The points that Jimmy mentioned here will definitely come in handy for me in the coming year, as well.

Thanks for the wishes, my friend. Happy New Years to you and yours, as well. :)

Harleena My Friend,

Thank you for your honesty in all this experience about the difficulty of letting go. I think we all go through this sort of experiences. Battling our ego is something we do very often.

Personally, I find that letting go becomes easy when we are very occupied with great stuff to do. The points I have mentioned here are basically for doing just that. They direct our energies and attention to more important things in life so that we give our ego little chance to play punk.

Welcome Jimmy! :)

There’s a phrase that I saw somewhere awhile ago and it captivated me so much that I made myself signs of it and posted it all around my house. The phrase is: *Dream *Believe *Do *Repeat. ~This is something that I strive to live by every single day. I believe that this ties in to your key points because in order to follow this mantra, the process of letting go of the doubts, over-analyzing, and ‘what-if’s’ must be done. As you said, most times it can be so easy to get stuck between the actions of *Believe and *Do–and when that happens yes those vibrations of not having what’s desired yet do indeed become stronger.

I always say, “If you’re already over-capacity, how do you expect to get more?” Meaning that new and fresh ideas, perspectives, experiences and connections cannot come into your mind and your life if you’re still focused intensely on holding on to the old ones. Only when you let go is when the new things will come in. I like the personal examples that you shared too–I was able to relate your life situations to some of my own. It was a great reminder for me-especially as we enter into a new year. Thank you for sharing and I wish you all the best!

~And many thanks and kudos to you Deeone for having such wonderful guest writers this week! :)

Thank you so much for your feedback and congrats, Makeba! :)

I absolutely loved your comment. One of the things that stood out to me is the phrase that you mentioned you have around your house. *Dream *Believe *Do *Repeat. That’s powerful stuff, Chica! I’m telling you, this is what I love most about blogging. Not only do you get to share what you’ve learned about life, but you also get to learn from other people’s experiences as well. Often what it does is fine tune things that are already in your own belief system, or it changes what we’ve come to believe altogether.

Jimmy’s post was right on time for me. It came at a time where I know that something HUGE is about to happen in my life, and what I have to learn how to do is release that belief into the Universe and just KNOW that it’s going to happen. Taking the appropriate action daily to get me where I most desire to be. All of the comments here, have shared in Jimmy’s lesson, at least for me. You all have contributed to something that I personally really need to grasp…. and that I will be incorporating into my daily practices.

Thank you for that, Chica! :) Happy New Years to you and yours, my friend. :)

Hi Makeba,

It’s so awesome that you have a mantra like that pasted all over your house. We do need powerful reminders of doing things that are important in our lives. Nothing is more important than believing and sunsequently taking action to allow the universe to manifest what we want in our lives.

Our minds are really like glasses. When it is fully occupied with thoughts that are not useful, how can more be poured into our lives. Only when we empty our glasses can more wisdom and ideas be made available to us. That’s why there is a saying that says, to learn we must first unlearn!

Jimmy,

I don’t know how I managed not doing this on Thursday, I truly thought I had; nonetheless, it’s better late than never, right? :)

I first want to thank you for submitting here at “RMT”. It is truly an honor for me to have you here. I cherish the friendship that’s forming between us, and value your thoughts and work over at Life’s Architects.

This post was awesome, bud! It showed me an area in my life that I haven’t been practicing releasing. Like you and other’s here, I have often sent my wants, goals, dreams, and what have you, into the Universe, but then continuously found myself thinking about them and wondering what will become of them. Often asking myself questions concerning “Am I doing absolutely everything I can to achieve those things I want?”

Being that I grew up in the church and read other materials and books that teach the importance of “believing” those things as though they already are; they each validate what you have stated here. In order for us to truly believe for what we want, we need to know that it’s gonna happen and leave it that. Such a simple lesson that’s not as easy for human nature.

But, if we can manage to teach ourselves to do this, what we will find to be the case is that what we want will come a lot faster to us.

AWESOME lesson, my friend. Thank you so much for sharing that with me and my readers here.

Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year! All the best to you! Cheers! :)

Hey, don’t sweat it, man! I appreciate you submitting it and for the commenting now. It’s no problem whatsoever; as they say, “Water under the bridge.” :)

I totally agree with you there, bud. And it’s a great reminder for each of us. There’s tremendous powers in letting go. People will run into so many blessings in their lives if they would learn to release stuff that’s keeping them from achieving what they want. It wasn’t until I begin writing about releasing and letting go that I found it’s awesome powers at work in my own life. There’s definitely a gift in it, that’s for sure.

Thanks for all you’re doing, Jimmy. I think you’re making a remarkable difference in the lives of many. Keep up the awesome work. It’s truly a pleasure to have you here at “RMT”. :)

All the best to you in 2012. :)

Hi Jimmy

These are great steps to starting a new way of thinking. The law of attration is simply that you attract what you focus on right? When we switch from worrying and dreaming to postive thinking and doing we are bound to begin to move forward and begin creating a life full of meaning and happiness.

I firmly believe in divine whispers. When we listen things work better. When we don’t we struggle. Of course sometimes the universe means for us to hear it loud and clear such as when you were finally forced to leave your in laws home and ended up realizing this was for the best.

Putting your intentions out into the world and then having faith in them is the first step in any new venture. It’s also a really hard one isn’t it? :) It’s the next step…the doing what you can today to make it happen that helps us have that faith and begins getting those results. Many people don’t understand that you really do need both aspects.

Keep on having faith Jimmy…you’ll rock 2012!

Hey Bonnie,

Thanks for offering your feedback on Jimmy’s post here. I really appreciate it.

It has been such a pleasure having each of the guest here to contribute so much to the “RMT” experience. I have continued on the journey of embracing the lessons that we receive often from one another. Something that I’ve always known about, but never used to pay much attention to, is the law of attraction. I had convinced myself that I wouldn’t attract what I was actually sending out. The problem with this suggestion is that even if we deny something from being true or factual; if it is indeed true or factual, denying it doesn’t change the fact.

I have become more mindful of the things that I send out into the world. I started doing this because I sensed exactly what you mention in your feedback… when I didn’t listen to the divine whispers I struggled a lot more than I would have if I had just listened to what the Universe was trying to tell me.

We have to pay attention to the world around us if we’re going to acquire what we want to attract in this life.

Again, thanks for the feedback, my friend. I loved reading your thoughts. :)

Hi Bonnie,

Divine whispers! That’s a great description of our intuition. We are all led by these divine whispers. The question is whether we want to listen or not. It make sense when we view this with risk taking as well. Don’t you find that listening to our divine whispers is all about trusting and taking risk?

Deeone and Jimmy, aloha. What a perfect way to start the new year by seeing the two of you converging on this block. Yet another “sign” it is going to be a fabulous year.

As it happens, I am very good at letting go, however, it definitely took some time to get to this place. When I finally realized I was better off leaving the details to the Universe, manifestations came much more quickly.

When I first started, I was very specific in terms of what I wanted and how it would happen. Now I set forth what it is that I want to happen and let it arrive as it will.

for instance, if a person wants to receive an extra $_____/a month, does it matter whether it comes from a business they are currently doing or from some new opportunity that presents itself? The answer, of course, is that it does not matter where it comes from, only that it comes.

The Universe knows the big picture and does not have our limited vision. We can only picture or envision things we already know exist or can happen. The Universe, knows all that is.

Thanks for a great start to my year.

Wishing you both a year of vibrant health, happiness in your hearts and abundance in all that matters to you. Hauoli Makahiki Hou. Janet

Hi Janet, it’s great to see you here at “RMT”! :)

Thank you also for sharing such an awesome comment to Jimmy’s post. I definitely agree with you, Jimmy started the New Year off perfectly with this post. What he did here was show us a most excellent way of going about making an important adjustment to how we should go about getting what we want. It’s usually this time of the year that we usually shift our focus to those things we want; making our resolutions list and checking them twice. I’ve learned overtime that it’s imperative that we consider what he has presented here so that we aren’t sabotaging ourselves from getting whatever it is we seek.

I’ve gotten much better at letting go, and like yourself, it definitely took me some time getting to this place in my life. In so many areas in our lives, we have to constantly be aware of those things that aren’t helping us to get what we want, as well as where we want to be; if something isn’t causing us growth in some way, shape, or form, it would be best practice for us to learn how to release it.

The same goes for those things we send out and want returned as well; send it into the Universe and leave it there.

You’re absolutely right about The Universe knowing the big picture, Janet! The Universe created the “game rules” for life; what often happens is that people think that they know what’s best for themselves, and therefore will try manipulating the plans of The Universe to better fit how they want it to look like. It’s a losing battle that’s best fought throwing our hands up in total submission after we make our request known.

I loved how you put that. The entire comment was very well put. Thanks so much for sharing it! :)

May 2012 overtake you with peace, love, and continual blessings, my friend.

Hi Janet,

I can recount sometime back that you actually wrote about a few incidents when you got what you want when you let go. There was a story about getting the desired neighbour you wanted right? That was nice.

We all want to behave like the smart alec who knows all, when in fact we don’t. I like what you said about being very specific about what we want and than leave it to the universe to get what we want. So much less stressful for everyone.

Hi Deeone & Jimmy,
It can be somewhat scary for the mind to let go and trust but it has to in order to get to where we want to be. All change is for the better even if it doesn’t seem that way to the mind.

Meditation is like a “good drug” for the mind. It relaxes it so that it doesn’t get in the way of manifesting our desires.

Hey Justin,

Thanks for the feedback on Jimmy’s post, my friend. I think that you hit it right on the head of why it’s so hard to let go sometimes. It’s a scary process to the subconscious mind. The mind thrives on having control of the issues we face, and when we have to introduce our thoughts to a “change of plans or pace”; it automatically panics and pushes the “Oh S*#^” button. I believe like you though, that all change is for the better. It doesn’t always seems as though this is the case, but we have to trust the Universe; that it knows what’s best for us than we do.

Thanks again, for stopping in and sharing your thoughts. As always, I’m very grateful and appreciative for you.

Hey Jimmy,

Easter Hicks says that we could get what we dream of if we just got out of the way. She means of course we are sabotaging ourselves by wanting to “make” things happen rather than letting the universe (that works in very mysterious ways) do the work.
She also says that the point of visualizing is not to make a dream come true, but simply because of the joy of watching our “mind movie”. It’s fun, it feels good.
We don’t go to surf to get it done but for the pleasure of it.

In my opinion there is immense power in our intention.

Thanks for the share Jimmy and to you too, Deeone for providing the “space” for the content to be.

And you’re absolutely right on that bud! If we don’t notice ourselves doing it we will self-sabotage ourselves out of many things in this life. We have to know when to let it go and let the Universe have it.

Thanks for the awesome feedback, my friend. Good stuff! :)

Hi Jimmy and Deeone,

What’s that they say about being better late than never? Ha ha…

Today, 2 months later…. as I was working through the over 400 spam comments that hit my blog towards the end of last year, I came across your yet to be approved track back link to this post Jimmy which is what alerted me that I had missed something.

Anyway was totally blown away by the post Jimmy and thanks too for the mention and link back to my post. Thank you too Deeone for featuring this post by Jimmy too.

On the subject of release which I believe is largely misunderstood and underplayed when it comes to the law of attraction, I love this quote –

“All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on.” – Henry Ellis

Naturally we don’t find it easy to let go because we are so afraid to really trust and yet if we don’t take the chance fully and completely we are guaranteed never to experience our true creative power.

We so desperately want to control things and yet we can’t have it both ways. Distracting ourselves from holding on as tightly a we do naturally is what’s required but this is not easy to do when we have trained ourselves to do the very opposite.

All we can do is become more aware and as a consequence practice differently over time not being hard on ourselves when we tend back to holding on too much. It’s all about practice. The best way I have found is to make sure you are having fun no matter what it is you are doing. We take everything far too seriously.

You have provided some sterling advice about how to let go Jimmy. Thank you.

Hi Marcus,

I’m glad you got the chance to read Jimmy’s post here. I agree with you that Jimmy really did a excellent job with this post.

I also couldn’t agree with you more in turns of the word “release”. We certainly should invest more energies in life to understanding and knowing what we should hold on to and what is in need of letting go.

I really enjoyed reading your thoughts on this. I hope Jimmy gets the opportunity to check out what you had to say on it.

Good stuff! Thanks for giving your feedback. :)
